Safety: Power tools and finishes can cause serious injury. Read and follow every tool and product manual, use guards and push sticks, wear eye and hearing protection, and work in a ventilated area. These plans are for general information; check measurements and your own skill before cutting. You build at your own risk, and Handy at Home is not liable for injury or damage. See the Terms.

Steps

  1. Mill the shelf

Cut the board to final length and width; ease all edges slightly.

    • Sight down the edge after milling — twist shows up as a rock on the wall.
  2. Mount bracket

Locate studs, level the bracket, and screw it into at least two studs.

    • Mount bracket first; use it as a template for drilling.
  3. Drill rod holes

Transfer rod positions to the back edge and drill straight holes 1/16" oversize to full rod depth.

    • Wrap tape on the bit as a depth stop.
  4. Finish and install

Sand to 180, apply 3 coats of wipe-on poly, then slide the shelf onto the rods.

    • Let poly cure fully before hanging weight on the shelf.

Always follow your tools’ safety instructions and wear eye protection. Free for personal use; please don’t resell or republish these plans.
