Steps
Cut legs and rails
Cut four short legs (~12–14"), long rails for width (~28–32"), and short end rails. Cut slats for two shelves.
- Measure your largest boots for depth (~12").
- Keep paired parts cut together for matching length.
Build two shelf frames
Assemble two rectangles; screw slats across with ~1/2" gaps. Check square.
- Spacer sticks keep gaps even.
- Predrill slat ends.
Attach legs
Screw legs to the shelf frames at two heights. Ensure the rack sits flat without rocking.
- Assemble upside down on a flat floor.
- Add cross braces on ends if it racks.
Sand and place
Sand splinters, finish if desired, and place on a rug or floor protector. Do not stand on it — it is not a step stool.
- Felt pads help on hardwood floors.
- Keep weight as shoe storage only.
